Ever find yourself seeing a grand vista, taking the photograph, and then being disappointed that it just didn't capture it? The best way to learn photography is to practice it--and do that with a mentor. We will go out together to discover landscapes, waterfalls, and other natural beauty in Lycoming County and learn the techniques to create the image in the camera that you see in front of you. We will meet in downtown Williamsport, and drive to one of the many wonderful and beautiful locations in Lycoming County. Let's talk before hand to ensure we find the locations, and time of day, that works for the types of photographs YOU want to create.

I enjoy sharing the how and why to go about taking great landscape and nature photography. I inherited a love for all things photography from my father. He gave me his old Minolta film camera back in the late 1970s (yes, the last century) and ever since then I have enjoyed taking photographs, processing, using dark rooms (and now “LightRoom”) and sharing my photographs. I learned much through 4-H and entering photos at the County and State fairs. Over time the tools have changed, but the love remains. Landscape and nature photography in particular captivates my imagination. The ability to see the world around us, and to work to not only turn it into a photograph but to convey the emotion, the sense of wonder that is observed, is so powerful. I don’t view photography as “capturing” so much as “co-creating." Taking the time to enjoy the moment, see the beauty, and then find the way to translate that into a single image. But it doesn’t stop there. If any of you have taken a photo and been disappointed in the image, and felt that it didn’t quite show the scene that you saw—you are not alone! The taking of the image is just the beginning of the creative process, and THAT is a journey in itself.
